Academic Council
- The academic council shall be the academic body of the university, consisting of the following members: -
- Kulapati;
- Rector;
- Commissioner, higher education, chhattisgarh or his nominee not below the rank of regional additional director, higher education;
- Chairman, chhattisgarh board of secondary education;
- Deans of all faculties;
- Dean or director as the case may be of the college development council;
- Chairmen of boards of studies;
- Heads of the departments of the university;
- Five principals of colleges affiliated to the university among whom as far as possible at least two shall be lady principals, nominated by the kulapati;
- Two professors of the affiliated colleges of the university, nominated by the kulapati;
- Three persons from 1[associate professors and assistant professors] of the university and assistant professors of the colleges among whom at least two shall be ladies nominated by the kulapati.
- Twelve members of the academic council shall form the quorum: provided that no quorum shall be necessary for adjourned meeting.
- The academic council shall have the power to co-opt, as members, two persons having special knowledge or experience in the subject-matter of any particular business which may come before the council for consideration. The members so co- opted shall have all the rights of the members of the council in regard to the transaction of the business in relation to which they may be co-opted.
- All the members of the academic council other than ex-officio members and members referred to in sub-section (3) shall hold office for a term of three years.
Powers And Duties Of Academic Council.
- the academic council shall in addition to all other powers vested in it by this act, the statutes and the ordinances have the following powers and perform the following duties, namely:-
- To exercise general supervision over the academic policies of the university and to give directions regarding methods of instruction, co-operative teaching among colleges and institutions maintained by or admitted to the privileges of the university, valuation of research or improvements in academic standards;
- To consider matter of general academic interest either on its own initiative or on a reference by a faculty or the executive council and to take appropriate action thereon;
- To make proposals for allocating departments to the faculties and to assign fellows and its own members to the faculties;
- To make proposals for the institution of fellowships, scholarships, studentships, exhibitions, medals and prizes and to make rules for their award;
- To consider the application for admission of an educational institution to the privileges of the university: provided that no such application shall be considered unless it is accompanied by certificate from the commissioner, higher education to the effect that the establishment of the institution or the expansion of the faculties sought by the institution has heen permitted by him;
- To prescribe qualifications for recognition of persons as teachers of the university and to accord such recognition;
- To make arrangements for the conduct of examinations and to appoint result committees consisting of its own member or other persons or both, as it thinks fit, to prepare the result of examinations and report such results to the executive council for publication;
- To recognize persons eminent in any subject to guide research in that subject.
- The academic council may appoint a standing committee consisting of its members. The constitution, powers and functions of the said standing committee shall be determined by the statutes.
